Kelle’s ’54 Chevy Truck Blog #3 V8TV

http://www.v8tvshow.com – Kelle’s blue ’54 Chevy had some issues griding gears, so her and her dad pulled another old 3-speed from a parts ’49 Chevy truck. It looks like they’ll build 1 good shifting box out of the 2. It was also wheel cylinder rebuilding time, but some seem to be a little too crusty to reuse, even after a good hone job. The steel wheels that came with the truck are all cleaned up with new rubber mounted on ‘em, and soon the Mexican blanket interior will go in. You’ll have to see the cool old stuff Kelle found under the seat!

I am thinking of buy a 54 truck in town for sale and I am just trying to find information. Is it hard to find parts, is it hard to change from 6 volt to 12 volt. Things like that. The 54 I am looking at is all original and also has ac. Any info would be great.

The engine in the truck is in great shape, so why not use it? It has good compression and does not use oil, so we elected to keep it on the road. Much easier and cheaper than a conversion.

If you get an old truck like that is it stupid to put new parts in it? Like if you have an old truck body and frame, could you put a newer engine and transmission in? Cause i got a used 350 engine for free…

Nice! Love the truck and the approach you’re taking with it. I’m restoring a ’49 Chev sedan (235 with 3 speed, etc.). You would make a great shop teacher! Refreshing to see a female so into this! Great job!
